iPrism Mixed Mode vs Barracuda and 8e6

St. Bernard SoftwareiPrism

One key thing to note about St. Bernard’s iPrism filtering appliance in comparison to Barracuda and 8e6 is that St. Bernard offers more flexibility to users with mixed environments because of its ability to run in “mixed mode”.

Mixed mode lets you use the iPrism as a tranparent proxy (bridge mode) and an explicit proxy at the same time. If you have a mixed machine or authentication environment or would like to offer different modes of filtering to different protocols (HTTP vs HTTPS) or different users (like Citrix users) then this can come in handy. Check out the KB article for more info: iPrism Mixed-Mode Traffic Filtering

With Barracuda, you would need two boxes to accomplish similar tasks and with 8e6 you would need a separate proxy to send traffic to the box.
